Most users do not have the necessary network permissions to allow modifying programs on their workstations.  If you receive a notice that Java (or any other program) is requesting an update, please submit a support ticket.  Please be sure to include the workstation requesting the update.


It's important to understand the difference between an update being available, and being desirable.  Some updates are intentionally ignored because they break other things.


If you need a program installed or updated on your workstation, please submit a support ticket.  You should not install programs on your own without prior instructions to do so from the IT department.  This includes toolbars for internet browsers.
